Hi friends! My sock-free journey continues into 2020. Back in November 2019, Allbirds debuted newly revamped wool loungers. The new design features a sole made with Allbirds’ signature SweetFoam(TM), a carbon negative green ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) derived from sustainably-grown sugarcane. According to Allbirds, the new wool lounger’s outsole is now thicker and better defined. Additionally Allbirds also promised fewer seams and cleaner lines. I was sold!
Hence I purchased a pair of Allbirds wool loungers in Frost with a cream sole. (I noticed Allbirds no longer designates certain colors/designs as “limited editions”. Wait, never mind. They still do label certain colors as limited editions!)
Immediately out of the box, the newly-designed Allbirds wool loungers appear slightly better made. They also felt much softer to the touch; the wool material feels smoother, and more like suede or soft felt versus wool mixed with post-consumer cardboard (see below).
Maybe it’s the Frost color versus the Plum, but the newly-designed Allbirds Wool Loungers just looked cuter and less frumpy on my feet. There are differences, including the tongue flap area, which appears wider. The toe box is also roomier. I’m guessing these loungers would feel better for people with bunions. There’s of course, no ankle support or true coverage, and the arch support is minimal to moderate at best. For a person with flat feet (like me) who over pronates, these shoes have not been problematic. In fact, my feet have felt so comfortable in them! They’ve become one of my go-to-shoes since I can wear them without socks. I’m also lazy so it’s great that I can slip them on and just go out the door! They’re super soft, so they’re absorbing some of the impact from ground reaction force with each step you take.
Your heels should not slip out of the loungers with each step. As they are wool loungers, I tend not to size up. I went with size 8 in Women’s, my usual size.
The price has not changed. You will still need to fork out 95 USD for a pair of Allbirds Wool Loungers. These shoes are not water-resistant or water-proof, but they are very warm. I’m able to wear them throughout a Seattle winter, without any socks on (granted it isn’t pouring or snowing).
The revamped Allbirds Wool Loungers are supremely comfy, easy to slip on, and don’t stink up quickly. (I’ve noticed that after the very first wash in the washing machine, the Allbirds subsequently become stinky faster.)
Unfortunately Allbirds has not found a way to prevent ugly toe humps. The tops of my toes still form toe humps/bumps that are noticeable.
Back in 2017, I returned my pair of Allbirds wool loungers and gave them a score of 3.7 out of 5 (pandas). My new score is 4/5 and I am not returning my new pair of Allbirds wool loungers! I love how comfortable they are, how they now actually look cute on my feet, how easy they are to slip on (yes they’re loungers), and how easy to care for they are.
What do you think, my friends? Do you have a pair or pairs of the new Allbirds wool loungers? Happy trekking as always!

Allbirds FAQ
Can allbirds get wet?
Yes they can! Only the Allbirds Runner and Runner Up Mizzles are water-resistant (not waterproof) and you can read my in-depth review of the Mizzles here.
Are Allbirds Waterproof?
No, Allbirds are not waterproof. See above.
Do you wear socks with Allbirds?
I personally don’t. Allbirds are moisture-wicking and odor-resistant. They were kinda made to be worn sans socks!
Do Allbirds smell?
Eventually they do become smelly. That’s when you toss them into the washing machine, and then air dry them.
Can you machine wash Allbirds?
Yes!
Can you toss Allbirds into the dryer?
No!
How often should you wash Allbirds?
I wash them about once a month.
Can you buy Allbirds in a store?
Now you can!
Are Allbirds good for wide feet!
Yes! My wide feet love them!
Are Allbirds shoes good?
Although Allbirds are not vegan shoes, they are made from sustainably-sourced materials, and Allbirds is utilizing carbon-neutral and carbon-negative techniques to produce their shoes. The shoes are comfortable, and the design is not in your face. The price point targets techies, so your masses will not be flocking to these shoes. It’s difficult to justify $95 loungers made from wool.
Do Allbirds Stretch out?
Eventually, they do, so be careful with sizing. Try on the shoes. They should be snug, because over time, they will stretch out.
