Five Vegan Cheeseburger Pies That You Can Make At Home
Many non-vegan people say to me that why would I not eat all the delicious animal-based products and that there is nothing wrong with it. Well, firstly, I believe that I can eat whatever I want, and if I choose to adopt a vegan diet, that is my choice. Secondly, who says that vegan food can be as delicious as any other kind.
I believe that if you know how to find the right ingredients, you can make almost any recipe without using animal products. When I think about the ultimate non-vegan food, the thing that comes to my mind is Cheeseburger pies; I mean, they are just a gooey mess of cheese and meat and make things whole they also use eggs.
As cheeseburger pies use all of the three main food groups that we vegans avoid, I challenged myself to make a cheeseburger pie, only using vegan ingredients. And instead of one, I came up with five amazing recipes that I would like to share with you today.
So, keep reading to learn some healthy and equally delicious cheeseburger pie recipes.
First of all, cheeseburger pies can be made with or without a crust, and I am going to feature both kinds in this post, however, here is a quick recipe for the crust that can be used with any of the mentioned cheeseburger pie recipes.
Ingredients:
All-purpose flour (3 cups)
Chilled vegan butter (2 sticks)
Ice-cold water (1 cup)
Directions:
Add the flour and cold butter into a stand mixer and let it go until the butter is incorporated into the flower. Add some ice-cold water to keep the butter from melting and turn on the stand mixer until a dough is formed. Place it in the refrigerator until you are ready to roll it out.
Black beans, and potatoes cheeseburger pie:
Ingredients:
Black beans (1 can)
A couple of potatoes (chopped)
A small onion (chopped)
A couple of tomatoes
Vegan cheese (cheddar and parmesan alternatives)
Almond milk or soy milk (1/2 cup)
Ground flaxseeds with water for an egg alternative.
Directions
First of all, to create the filling, add some olive oil in the skillet and add in the beans, potatoes, and onions and sauté them for about 10-15 minutes
Take a pie plate and place one sheet of the rolled-out crust dough on the bottom, poke some holes in it to let the steam escape. Add a layer of filling, then sliced tomatoes, and then the vegan cheese.
Create a vegan egg alternative by mixing the ground flaxseeds with water, and pour it in the pie along with the almond or soy milk.
Cover with the second sheet of crust, crimp the edges, and cook in a 350 degrees F oven for 35-40 minutes.
Mexican black beans, no crust cheeseburger pie with caramelized onions:
Ingredients:
Black beans (1 can)
A yellow onion (chopped)
Smoked Paprika, cayenne pepper (1 tsp each)
Garlic (3 cloves, minced)
Cumin (1/2 tsp)
Cilantro (a couple of sprigs)
Vegan Cheddar cheese
Almond milk (1/2 cup)
Vegan egg alternative (as mentioned in the previous recipe)
Directions:
Start by making some simple Mexican style black beans, heat some olive oil in a skillet and add the garlic and onions, cook for a couple of minutes and then add the black beans cilantro, cumin, and seasonings. Continue cooking for an additional 10 to 15 minutes.
Take a pie pan and spray it with non-stick spray, add the beans on the bottom, and cover with some sliced tomatoes. Add a healthy layer of vegan cheese on top along with the alternative vegan egg mixture and almond milk.
Bake for about 20-25 minutes in a 400 degrees F oven.
Red beans and portobello mushrooms cheeseburger pie:
Ingredients:
Portobello mushrooms (1 cup, chopped)
Red beans (1 can)
A small onion (chopped)
One sliced eggplant
Vegan cheese
Almond milk (1/2 cup)
Vegan egg alternative
Procedure:
Take a skillet and cook the onions in some olive oil for a couple of minutes, add the red beans, and chopped mushrooms and continue to cook for another 10 minutes. Add the seasoning of your choice.
Take a prepared pie pan, with the crust dough already lined on the bottom. Add the filling and top with some slices of tomatoes and a generous amount of cheese. Add some milk and the vegan egg alternative on top and cover with the second layer of crust.
Crimp the edges and trim the excess. Bake in a 350 degrees F oven for 35-40 minutes.
Black beans and cremini mushroom keto cheeseburger pie:
Ingredients:
Walnuts (100 g)
Cremini mushroom (8 ounces)
Black beans (1 can)
A yellow onion (chopped)
Vegan cheese
Vegan egg alternative
Seasonings of your choice
Directions:
Grind the walnuts and mushrooms in a food processor and set aside.
Sweat the onions in a skillet with olive oil and add some tomato paste. Add the black beans and let them cook for about 5 minutes. Then add in the walnut and mushroom mixture and cook for another 5 minutes and add the seasoning of your choice. Your high-fat, low-carb filling is ready for a keto cheeseburger pie.
Add the pie filling to a pie pan coated with non-stick spray. Add the sliced tomatoes and vegan cheese on top along with the vegan egg alternative and milk.
Bake in a 400 degrees F oven for 20-25 minutes.
Indian tikka masala style tofu and black beans cheeseburger pie:
Ingredients:
Vegetable oil and vegan butter (2 tbsp each)
A finely diced onion
Garlic (3 cloves, minced)
Ginger (1 tbsp, finely grated)
Garam masala and ground cumin (1 ½ tsp)
Turmeric powder and red chili powder (1 tsp)
Ground tofu (1 cup)
Black beans (1 can)
Vegan cheese
Directions:
Sauté the onions, garlic, and ginger in a skillet with vegetable oil. After a couple of minutes, add the black beans and ground tofu. Add the spices and seasonings and cook for 10-15 minutes. Add the vegan butter at the end.
Take a pie plate, line it with the crust dough, and add your filling. Top with a layer of sliced tomatoes and add the cheese on top. Cover with the second sheet of pie crust.
Bake in a 350 degrees F oven for 35-40 minutes.
